This delicious French toast is a wonderful treat that is great for a relaxed weekend breakfast. With its sugary crust and bread soaked in custard, it’s a really delicious treat.
French Toast with Caramelized Sugar Topping

Caramel Sauce:
Amount of Ingredients
Butter without salt, 1/2 cup (1 stick)
1 cup of brown sugar
Clear corn syrup 2 tablespoons
Custard:
Amount of Ingredients
5 big eggs
Cream made from equal parts of milk and cream. One and a half cups
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
You can add a small amount of Grand Marnier or orange liqueur if you like.
Add a pinch of salt.

Challah or brioche bread 1 bread, cut into slices that are 1/2 inch thick.
Sugar in granules, 1/4 cup (if desired, for making caramel).
Directions:
Make caramel sauce. Heat butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup in a saucepan on medium heat until they are smooth. Put in a baking dish that measures 9 by 13 inches.
Put the bread slices in a single layer on top of the caramel.
Prepare custard: Mix eggs, cream, vanilla, Grand Marnier (if desired), and salt together. Pour liquid over bread.
Put in the fridge: Cover and put in the fridge for the night or at least 8 hours.
Bake: Heat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake without covering for 35-40 minutes or until it turns golden brown.
Optional step: Sprinkle sugar on top and use a kitchen torch to caramelize it.
Serve: Let it cool a bit before serving.
