Classic Goulash
A hearty and flavorful dish combining tender elbow pasta, seasoned ground beef, and a rich tomato sauce, all topped with melted cheddar cheese. Perfect for family dinners or casual gatherings!
Ingredients
- 1 lb elbow macaroni
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce
- 2 (14.5 oz) cans diced tomatoes
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 ½ tbsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tbsp black pepper
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven and Cook the Pasta
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the elbow macaroni for 3 minutes less than the package directions indicate. Drain and set aside.
2. Prepare the Beef and Seasonings
- Heat a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground beef and chopped onion. Cook for 6–7 minutes, stirring frequently, until the beef is browned and the onion is softened. Drain any excess grease.
3. Create the Sauce
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.
- Add the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until combined.
4. Season the Mixture
- Sprinkle in the Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
- Taste the sauce and adjust seasonings as needed.
5. Combine Pasta and Cheese
- Stir the drained macaroni into the skillet, ensuring the pasta is evenly coated with the sauce.
- Mix in the shredded cheddar cheese until fully combined.
6. Bake to Perfection
- If your skillet is oven-safe, bake the goulash directly in it. Otherwise, transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until bubbling and the cheese is golden brown.
7. Serve and Enjoy
- Remove the goulash from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
- Serve warm with a side salad or garlic bread for a complete meal.
