Sticky Gooey Bars

A decadent dessert with a buttery crust and a creamy, gooey topping—perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

For the Base:

  • 1 box yellow cake mix (dry)
  • 8 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 egg

For the Sticky Layer:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 16 oz powdered sugar

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with butter or cooking spray.

2. Prepare the Base

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the dry cake mix, melted butter, and egg.
  2. Stir until well blended and a smooth dough forms.
  3. Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan, creating an even crust.

3. Make the Sticky Layer

  1. In a separate large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth.
  2. Add the beaten eggs and mix for a few minutes until incorporated.
  3. Gradually mix in the powdered sugar, beating until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

4. Assemble the Bars

  • Spread the sticky layer evenly over the prepared crust.

5. Bake

  • Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is set but still slightly gooey in the center.
  • Avoid overbaking to preserve the soft, sticky texture.

6. Cool and Serve

  1. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan.
  2. Once cooled, cut into squares or bars for serving.

Tips for Success

  • For easier cutting, refrigerate the bars for about 30 minutes after cooling.
  • Add a sprinkle of powdered sugar or a drizzle of caramel on top for extra sweetness.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for up to a week.
